CAPA – Nature and Wildlife – Due Date

October 11

This competition will have five themes:

  • Botanical – Only wild plants photographed in their natural environment in this theme such as flowers, shrubs, bushes, trees, fungi and algae. Human created hybrid or “cultivated plants” are not permitted.
  • Insects, Reptiles & Amphibians – Such as alligators, ants, bees, beetle, butterflies, crickets, crocodiles, dragonflies, frogs, gecko, hornets, iguana, lizard, mantis, mosquitoes, snakes, turtles, wasps etc…
  • Landscape – subject such as weather phenomena, geological formations, landscapes, seascapes and natural phenomena, planets, stars and astronomical events.
  • Nature – such as living animals (including arthropods, spiders and crustaceans), birds and marine subjects, which are living under the unobvious control and feeding of humans in situations such as zoos, game farms, animal reserves, and/or aquariums, etc.
  • Wildlife – This theme is restricted to living and untamed mammals, birds and marine subject ONLY. Wildlife subjects for this them must be living and cannot be living in traditional zoos, open range zoos, game farms or other areas where they are under the care of man, restrained and/or confined.

 For a full definition of each theme and rules for this competition can be found on the CAPA Website, https://capacanada.ca/2025-nature-wildlife-competition/ , it is the photographer’s responsibility to ensure that the images they are submitting meet the CAPA criteria.

Submissions to CAPA are uploaded to their database which requires that they must meet the following requirements: 

Maximum horizontal size – 1400 pixels

Maximum vertical size – 1015 pixels 

Maximum file size – 1.8 MB

File format – .jpeg or .jpg 

Image Titles – The file name must include the photographer’s name and the image title with no symbols such as / – _ or “.

An image’s title may be used by the judges in evaluating a submission, so ensure your title complements or contributes to the vision or message being presented to the image. 

As a CAPA club member we are entitle to submit 6 images from 6 different photographers, so we will be accepting one image per member. All images submitted to our External Competition Chair will be adjudicated and the best images will be submitted on behalf of the club. You will be notified if your image is selected as of the club’s submissions. 

Images are to be submitted to the externalcomp@hcpclub.ca by Oct 11th

The CAPA due date for this competition is October 15th and results will be shared approximately 2 weeks after this date. The results will be a numeric score out of 30 only and these results will be shared with the individual members via email when received.
