Only one person,
Photographed from the waist (or above) up.
Jan Blackbourn Award – Abstract
Jan was a founding and hard-working member of the Harbour City Photography Club and know for her colourful abstracts. These abstracts were actual photographs taken during her career as a marine biologist at the Pacific Biological Station.
“Abstract images are conceived or imagined outside of ‘reality’. They can encompass a huge variety of subject matter, that us out of our comfort zone, make us question what we see, invite us to enter another realm. In abstract photography, often there aren’t the usual frame of reference for the viewer; they’re not looking at anything immediately recognizable or discernible. This is lack of context in which to evaluate an image is one of the reasons why abstract photography can be so challenging and enthralling.” ~ taken from the “Definition of Abstract Photography” at www.abstractreality.com.
Nigel Fletcher Memorial Award – Humour in Photography
Nigel was a long-term member and active contributor to the Harbour City Photography Club. He chaired multiple committees and he was on the executive board for several years. However, what Nigel will be mostly remembers for is his wonderful sense of humour and how that always came across in his photography. He saw and captured the funny moments and situations wherever he went.
