Continuing with the upcoming CAPA Fine Art Competition which is due on Saturday, January 24th, one of the themes is Landscape, so here is another opportunity to perhaps do something different and submit an entry. 

Fine art photography’s goal is to communicate not simply what you saw, but how it felt to be there or how the scene made you feel. Some advice I cam across in researching this topic are: 

• Be intentional and deliberate – slow down, compose your image to express what you are feeling. 
• Consider whether colour or monochrome best match what you were feeling and visualising. 
• Don’t be afraid to alter reality by using techniques such as long shutter speeds or intentional camera movements to perhaps make the picture look almost like a painting. 
• Experiment with interpretive editing in post-production to further interpret your image and convey the intent and feelings you intended. 
• Seeking the light – move about so you capture the lighting that imbues your image with emotion and be patient while waiting for the light to illuminate your subject.

What is it?

Photograph of the Week (POW) is a weekly challenge to get your creativity flowing and your shutters clicking. 

How does it work?

Each Sunday, I will send you a topic and you will take a photograph of something that interprets that topic for you and post it on our Facebook page during that week. It can be a literal interpretation or something more abstract. How you go about doing this is totally up to you, you can head outside or stay home, there are no rules. The one thing I do ask is that the picture(s) you post is either taken or edited in that week, remember this is meant to keep your creative juices flowing.
