Saysutshun or Newcastle Island Marine Provincial Park is the island across from Maffeo Sutton Park. It is traditional Snuneymuxw land that offers many photographic opportunities, from vistas of extensive beaches, cityscapes of Nanaimo to macro of eroded sandstone formations and treasures washed up by the tides. 

The outing will start at 10:15 when we will meet at Maffeo Sutton Park where we will catch 10:30 the ferry over to the island, from there it will be self-guide so you can take a leisurely walk along one of the many trails or head to the beach to explore there. 

There are over 22 kilometres of well-tended trails, that will suit every age and fitness levels, the Shoreline Trail and trail along Mark Bay provide an easy scenic walk while the trails around the island are more challenging. Click HERE for a map to all the trails on the island. 

The outing will officially end between 1:00 – 2:00 when we will meet at the concession stand where you can purchase lunch or enjoy a picnic you brought from home. One thing to keep in mind is there are no storage facilities so if you do bring your own food you will have to keep it with you as you are exploring the island. From there you are free to explore more of the island or head home. If you stay on the island the last ferry is at 4:45PM.

Costs 

Ferry – Adults – $15, Seniors – $12, Children (12 & under) $7 and Pets $5

Concession – The prices at the concession stand are varied, ranging from $5 for a bowl of soup to $22 for a full meal. The prices are from the website and are subject to change. 

As this is a self-guided outing guests are welcome.
