Let’s face it, if a shot isn’t in focus, at a ‘throw-away’.

Today’s cameras have many different parameters of Shoot Mode, Focus, Metering and Drive Modes – all of which can be intertwined. So, with any talk about FOCUS, it’s necessary to talk about the effects the different settings have, since they all can be related to one another. Just as one example, when shooting in Burst (Continuous) Drive Mode, if the aperture is set too low, many cameras will only focus for the first shot and will not refocus during the burst, even when the Focus Mode is set to Continuous – so you end up with a lot of out-of-focus shots. 

To have as many shots as possible with the subject ‘tack sharp’, you need to be award of the optimum settings for each as they apply to the subject you’re shooting. These settings vary between Landscape, Portrait, Wildlife, Sport and so forth. 

This presentation by Brian Argyle will give you some new ideas for the next time your are out shooting, although there will be no ‘hands-on’ practice for this presentation there should be some interesting discussions. It may be helpful to bring you camera so you can look at the different modes in your camera as Brian is talking about them.
