CAPA – Black & White – Due Date

November 10

A black & white image ranges from very dark grey (black) to very light grey (white) and varying shares (darker) and tints (lighter) of the greyscale. 

All submitted images must be deemed as a black and white image, no tinting, such as sepia, will be permitted. 

Submitted images must fall into one of the following themes: 

  • Candid Person(s) – images that capture candid moments that reveal the humorous, irony, and drama of the human experience. Photograph people naturally, without posing. 
  • Natural Surroundings – images featuring weather phenomena, geological formations, cityscapes, landscapes, seascapes and natural phenomena such as planets, stars and astronomical events. People can be included in the image(s) provided that they enhance the story of the surroundings. 
  • Dramatic Contrast & Shadows – are the focal point of these images. Explore low-key, silhouette, and selective lighting effect to create bold graphic images. Everyday space can reveal geometric shadows cast by individuals, buildings, signs, structures and wildlife. 
  • Nostalgia – create scenes reminiscent of by-gone eras – image that evoke echoes of the past. Examples such as abandon aircraft, boats, buildings, ships, still-life of antiques, structures, trains and vehicles. Composite images contrasting the old and the new are permitted in this theme.

It is the photograph’s responsibility to ensure that the images they are submitted meet the CAPA criteria. 

Submissions to CAPA are uploaded to their database which required that they must meet the following requirements: 

Maximum horizontal size – 1400 pixels 

Maximum vertical size – 1050 pixels 

Maximum file size – 1.8 MB 

Image Titles – the file name must include the photographer’s name and the image title, with no symbols such  as “/ – _ or .”. 

An image’s title may be used by the judges in evaluating a submission, so ensure your title complements or contributes to the vision or message being presented in the image. 

As a CAPA club member we are entitled to submit 6 images, from 6 different photographers, all images submitted to our External Competition Chair will be adjudicated, and the best images will be submitted on behalf of the club. You will be notified if your images is selected as one of the club’s submissions.
