
CAPA – 2023 Nature/Wildlife Competition – Due Date

Scope of Competition: This competition has five themes which are:
Botanical – Wild plants photographed in their natural environment.
Insects, Reptiles & Amphibians – Such as lizard, snakes, ants, bees, beetles etc. These must be in their natural setting, hand-of-man elements shall not be present, except where those human elements are an integral part of the nature story (10% or less of the total image.
Landscape – Subject such as weather phenomena, geological formation, landscapes, seascapes etc. Hand-of-man shall not be present.
Nature – Living animals under the control and feeding of humans if not obvious, such as zoos, game farms animal preserves, aquariums etc. No feral or domestic birds or animals are permitted.
Wildlife – Only living and untamed wildlife mammals, birds and marine subjects.
A full definition of each theme , hand-of-man restrictions and editing rules can be found on the CAPA Website this should be reviewed prior to entering a photograph into this competition.
Important Note – For this competition, the entrant must preserve the submitted image’s original un-retouched (not cropped, or edited) JPEG or camera RAW file. Original file must be easily accessible prior to submitting an image into this competition. All editing to an image must be undertaken by using a copy of the original image.
For potential winning images, the entrant must provide the “original un-retouched JPEG or camera RAW file” when requested to do so by the Director of Competitions. Director will request the original file to confirm the authenticity of the submitted image and to ensure the Restricted Editing Criteria has been met.
A DNG and a PSD file are not recognized as an original file. Only exception will be for images capture on specific cameras: Apple iphone, Lecia, Nokia smartphone, Ricoh, Casio, LG, Panoscan, zsamsun, DxO, MegaVision Pentax and Sinar.
The potential winning image will be removed from the contest if the original file cannot be provided and the contest results will be re-sorted.
Images must be sized to a maximum horizontal size of 1400 pixels and a maximum vertical size of 1050 pixels and be no larger that 1.8 MB.
Image Titles – The file name must include the photographers name and images title, with no symbols such as /-_, or quotation marks. An example of a correctly named images is Joe Smith The Urban Network.
As a CAPA club member we are entitled to submit 6 images, from 6 different photographers, to this competition, all images submitted to David, our External Competitions Chair, will be adjudicated and best images will be submitted on behalf of our club. You will be notified if your image is selected to be submitted to CAPA.
